Lotta layers

It's been freezing in Virginia this week, with two minor snowfalls to make things interesting. Cabin fever sometimes exaggerates one's perceptions, but it feels like it hasn't been this cold around here in quite some time.

At times like these, there's only one thing to do.

Set the way-back machine for 1979, turn the thermostat to 68 degrees, and pile on the layers.

Polo shirt: Ralph Lauren. Oxford shirt, sweater, and boots: L.L. Bean. Vest: Lands' End. Corduroys: J. Crew.
I discovered ragg socks for the first time last winter. They have changed my life.
Levi's belt: not the world's preppiest, but I wear it all the time for its scruffy 70s vibe. Heavy Tweed Jacket, are you listening?
I haven't seen anyone else assemble layers this way since I was in high school. But that hardly scares me.

  1. I've had similar layers on like that here in North Carolina. :)

  2. Very nice! I discovered ragg socks this winter and they are wonderful, aren't they? I prefer the all cotton ones, I will definitely be buying more for next winter. Ahhh, the memories of all those layers.

  3. It's been quite cold in NC, too. Thank goodness the ice and sleet melted away yesterday. I love cotton ragg socks. I'm ready for spring, though. Enough with the cold!

  4. John - terrific & timeless outfit. Love the belt; it complements the sweater & cords perfectly. A ribbon belt, of any color or pattern, would not look as good. The idea of belts being "preppy" are ridiculous anyway.

  5. You're right. It has been bitterly cold, hasn't it? I find the older I get the more I layer. I just hate wearing a coat and only do so when I have to get super-duper dressed up. Otherwise I channel you.
